Hi Eliacin,

Good to hear from you! Fuller is going well. I just started full-time studies again, which I am immersed in reading and writing, and reading and writing, and reading and writing. Hope all is well!

Grace and Peace,

Dave

Thanks Eliacin. Things are going pretty good here. Busy...Jessie just started working for Bread for the World, which has been a huge step for her, and I've started working for WarnerPacific College in a staff capacity. Writing has been on hold for the moment, though I've been planning for a novel...story has become increasingly fascinating to me. Portland/Vancouver is interesting.
Hey...I've been considering something...coming under the banner of the Mennonite denomination...for a variety of reasons that I'd love to talk about. Was wondering what your thoughts are about those doors and possibilities. I know that you've been exploring that in some arenas for a while now. Maybe we can talk about that.

Thanks for the welcome. I like what you are doing here.
I started attending a brethren in Christ here in Canada and really started to vibe with the anti baptist thing and the peace teachings of Jesus. I was never taught that before...

Looking forward to the journey...

Thanks for the post on Benedictine Community and Anabaptist Ecclesiology. Whose blog is that? Do you know the person? I hadn't come across it before.

I'm not sure what you meant on the last comment....what i understand you saying is that the maroon communities can provide insight and ideas to resistance and creative living?

I am a reggae musician..........and what really resonated with my spirit when i was first initiated into the culture was...........the balance between the warrior vibes and righteousness. For youth today...especially in urban communities...the image of warrior or warrior spirit is connected to gangster types. So the notion of a rebel for a righteous cause totally resonated with me. And of course we know the Master himself was a rebel/warrior in the most righteous way. True roots music that has conviction speaks of justice and the plight of the poor and oppressed.........while at the same time maintaining the mandate to "Give thanks and praise".

The Rasta movement is vibrant and diverse......but generally the movement focuses on Haile Selassie the 1st. The last emperor of Ethiopia. He was crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lord's, the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Some Rasta mistakenly saw him ....and continue to view him as the returned Messiah partly because of these titles. This itself is a long discussion....but on many levels it was the Jamaicans attempt to not be trapped in the legacy of slavery and white power system which promoted a false Xtianity while promoting the denegration and oppression of non white peoples.

So for many Rasta......the Church (as an organized system) was just another manifestation of Babylon....and to some extent the prophetic judgment is correct. Rasta is primarily a black consciousness movement. So after the years of slavery ...........it's understandable why there is resentment towards the "white man's Jesus". Seeing Haile Selassie as Christ was basically wanting to see Christ as an African........and i think it safe to think an effort to promote that if black people are created in the image of God then God must be black too.

Of course we know that Yeshua was not white and interestingly enough Haile Selassie was a devout follower of Christ and refuted the idea that he (Selassie) was Messiah while he was still living. (Another much larger point I'll set aside for now)

This is why I think going back to the Roots (Jewish) are important... This Way that is known as the Christian Way is not a Western tradition. It is taught to be this way though because of the dominance of Christendom in Early Modern Europe and beyond. The reality is that Messiah was not Western and His frame of reference was a tribal one. Living in Judea during Roman occupation. .......I think when we study Messiah's teachings in his first century palestinian context......we see his teachings clearly and in color. My understanding of Messiah's teachings have developed much as a result of the concern for context/roots.

I think the whole Kingdom focus is primary to this discussion of context/Jewish roots also. For a lot of people........Messiah came to help us get to heaven after we die. While there is some fundamental Truth there.......it shows the severity, I think of the misunderstanding of what the Gospel actually is saying about the Kingdom being established on earth as it is in Heaven.

No I'm not in direct relationship with them. Finding them was an answer to prayer though.....I sought out a network like this in Latin America with persistent effort, partly to find resources...wholistic Kingdom audio sermons to distribute to the gente I around me in So. California I hope some day I can connect with them in the flesh.

As far as Rasta's concept of Babylon. We can talk about that extensively.
First.....I will say that the sort of spirit of Rasta philosophy really is imbued with the Maroon's warrior spirit and resistance no question.

Rasta definitely have the militant, soldier mindset. "No weak heart inna Zion"
It's beautiful though how many are able to balance it with the importance of love....unity and peace being at the center of the warrior's heart.

Rasta prophetically saw the vision of the British empire's (at their time) contemporary manifestation of Babylon....being exiled from Africa (Ethiopia being in many Rasta's reasoning Zion) to captivity......400 years of slavery.
of the Hebrews spoke of their experience of slavery in the "New World". They caught on to the parallel between Hebrew suffering and their suffering and as a result.....identify as Israel. There is a community of Rasta called the 12 Tribes of Israel.

You asked a question which i could use as a starting point to write for a considerable length. But I think I should leave it there for now....been on this computer a bit too long.
